The TASK FORCE Continues

The TASK FORCE ContinuesThe National Academy of Sciences, which is the largest organization in the world and the home of the BA as well as all other fields that are experimental, published a study on thesis topic research and these findings were cited by some employers. The article, 'Thesis Topic Research: A Way to Maximize Academic Impact,' by David Burkhart, Steven Gage, John E. Norris, Peter J. Williams, and Thomas F. Hodgkinson, is in press in the Journal of Higher Education. The authors cite eight studies on thesis topic research that were conducted in different universities. At the beginning of the article, the researchers state the goal of their research was to determine if it is really necessary for faculty to use thesis topic research. They asked the questions 'Why thesis topic research?' and 'Is it necessary for faculty to use thesis topic research?'One of the major results from the research was that employers don't need specific information about the hiring process to asses s your ability to do research. Employers see how much actual work you have done and if you worked hard. The only data they require is the level of effort you put into researching and writing the paper. If you choose a good advisor, you can still use a thesis topic to research, but don't be too surprised if they look at your average grade.Another article that cites this situation is a blog post, 'Does it Pay to Do Research,' by Greg Marrin, in the Higher Education Teacher. He states, 'Although some think it does pay to do research, the research has not been supported by the evidence available. It is difficult to separate the question of 'does it pay to do research?' from those who would rather not answer the question because they feel it is not useful.'Another problem that BAs face when using thesis topic research is that the job description does not specify how the topic should be developed. If it's not explicitly stated, your supervisor may tell you to come up with your own topic, which could be too difficult for you. If you are doing thesis topic research and a supervisor asks you to come up with a topic, be sure to have a topic already developed. Finally, some employees use thesis topic research because they want a taste of what working in academia is like. If you do have this feeling, consider changing topics. There is always time to develop new topics for future interviews. In conclusion, if you really want to prove your ability to do research, you will have to pay attention to the topic you choose for your BAs. You should ask yourself a few questions to determine if it is right for you. In the end, it is best to consult with an advisor.Lastly, it's also important to remember that employers may only see the results of your topic research. Therefore, if you do develop a topic that you find interesting, make sure to come up with some ideas on how to get started developing the topic.
